Top three Canadian unveils from Montreal Auto Show 2016
The Montreal International Auto Show (MIAS), or Salon International de l’Auto de Montréal for the Francophones reading, is the first major Canadian automotive event following Detroit’s annual spectacle, and is where many new vehicles have their first northern debut. Not everything makes the trek up here, but as we show you in this post, there is still lots to see at MIAS.
Infiniti calls their all-new 2017 QX30 a “premium active crossover,” ready to tackle any road whether urban, suburban or rural. This CUV, bulging with aggressively-sculpted sheet metal, comes in three flavours: standard front-wheel drive, a FWD S model with a lower stance and big 19-inch wheels, and an AWD variant with a raised ride height and front/rear skid plates.
All QX30s feature a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 208 horsepower and a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Look for the QX30 to arrive in the middle of the year.
A certain German luxury automaker is returning to its roots of producing powerful, lightweight rear-wheel drive vehicles by releasing the M2 Coupe. Its family lineage is unmistakable, what with the gaping air intakes in the front bumper, meaty fenders with trademark “gills,” double-spoke aluminum wheels and twin-tailpipe exhaust system.
Yet another version of the M TwinPower Turbo mill has been created to power the M2, churning out 370 hp and 343 lb-ft of torque. Given its large output numbers, combined city and highway fuel consumption is rated at a surprisingly thrifty 8.5 L/100 km.
Volkswagen Golf Alltrack
Last year, Volkswagen launched the Sportwagon, named AJAC’s Best New Family Car, at MIAS. This year, a 2017 All-Track model makes its first appearance in Canada, equipped with the company’s 4MOTION all-wheel drive system that’s also found on the Golf R.
Arriving in showrooms in the summer, the All-Track has a 170 hp turbocharged engine and differentiates itself from the standard trim with a higher suspension, unique bumpers and grille, and special badging inside and out.
